Support and Care for the Vulnerable Communities: FIPHAI-UGANDA, through fighting poverty with your own hands strategies, has engaged in interventions to help the vulnerable communities in the rural and semi urban settings. The vulnerable communities include orphans and other vulnerable children, malnourished children, women, elderly people, widows, people with all forms of disabilities, persons affected and infected with HIV/AIDS, the war affected communities, the refugees, child mothers and other sexually abused women and girls. The support and care for these communities include provision of food, clothes, school fees and scholastic materials for the in-school children; shelter, literacy campaigns, medical care, psychosocial support and counselling for the traumatized vulnerable persons. Economic Empowerment and Skills Development for Women and the Youth not in School: This intervention is looking at providing skills in tailoring, knitting, art and craft making, carpentry and joinery, brick laying and concrete practice, catering, farming, livestock, hairdressing and other skills that will enhance the skills for sustainable livelihoods among the youth. The main goal for this intervention is to aid their productivity through providing tools as starting capital so as to reduce poverty among the youth. This program targets all the vulnerable persons, the youth, the child mothers and sex workers including the street children and the orphans out of school. FIPHAI-UG is running a micro-credit scheme, where women make savings and acquire simple loans to support them in running small businesses. Awareness Raising and Sensitization in the Communities: FIPHAI-UGANDA will serve the community through planned sensitization and awareness raising through conducting workshops, seminars, dissemination and sharing of information and communication education materials, media, and other strategies that will support the information in reaching the communities. Awareness and sensitization will focus on major pertinent issues in the areas of HIV/AIDS, prevention of early marriage, gender-based and sexual violence prevention, child protection, conservation of the environment and sustainable means of managing the natural resources, poverty eradication, peace building and conflict management, production and value chain development , good governance and general human rights observation, protection of the marginalized groups and issues that affect the development of our communities. Human Rights and Good Governance: FIPHAI-UGANDA through its moral support and dialogue strategies promotes an awareness campaign on good governance in all sectors including government. Poor governance enhances the violation of human rights; therefore promotion of good governance and human rights is vital in development of our communities. This program works directly with community leaders, community based organisations, civil society organisations, private sector in the areas of human rights, prevention of domestic violence and gender-based related violence against women, rights of sexual minorities , promotion of children’s rights, the rights of people with disabilities, the respect of the elderly and promotion of all the constitutional and entitled human rights. The aim is to eliminate all forms of corruption through community dialogue meetings, radio talk shows, information sharing, community meetings, empowering the women through women's groups, public debates and the strengthening of peace clubs in schools so as to enhance strength among the young people to advocate for human rights and governance. This program engages the community in peace building, conflict management and prevention and promotion of a culture of non-violence in the communities of FIPHAI UGANDA operations. Health Awareness and Sensitization: Through this program, the organisation creates awareness and provides skills in reproductive and other health issues including sanitation and hygiene promotion; awareness is also raised in the areas of HIV/AIDS and other sexual transmission diseases prevention. It deals with support and care for persons with reproductive health problems like making referrals and supporting such cases to access medical facilities and services. Such people include the women with fistula cases, the persons infected with HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases, women whose health was affected during the war and other persons with reproduction health problems. Sexual reproductive health education is being extended to adolescents in schools and the surrounding community, with the intention of reducing HIV/AIDS prevalence among the youth, unwanted pregnancies and other diseases. FIPHAI-UG focuses on promotion of proper nutrition and prevention of malaria through community health awareness and use of Long Lasting Insecticide Treated bed Nets (LLINs). the project targets the most vulnerable groups, including pregnant women, children under 5 years and persons infected with HIV/AIDS. Support for Education of the Children and Functional Adult Literacy campaign: Under this program, a lot of initiatives in education have been accomplished with a primary school having been established that is dealing with vulnerable children in the suburbs and other vulnerable communities neighboring Kasese municipality. Other institutions will be established - secondary schools, tertiary institutions and vocational skills training institutions to promote formal and informal education. The organisation through its community resource persons has promoted functional adult learning that enhances improved literacy systems and community development. Agriculture: The school has set up an animal demonstration farm at FIPHAI-UG land containing Goats, Pigs, Hens and Ducks. it is intended to teach community members how to rear animals. the school trains community members to establish kitchen gardens around homes with the aim of improving nutrition. Discipleship and Counselling: The aim is to disciple people to maturity in Jesus Christ and into obedience to the Holy Scriptures through Bible sharing and Discipleship and Counselling , The purpose is to root believers in their Faith. This generates inner healing and hope for they love their Creator God and strive to live in accordance to His will. Hopeful persons are self-motived and forward-looking. They see sense and meaningfulness in their surroundings and circumstances. They are loving, compassionate and supportive; therefore quick to reconcile, and to reunite for restoration and development. |
